This Privacy Policy applies to your access to and use of the Soco Application, including our websites, mobile applications, and other online programs and services, collectively referred to as the “Soco Application” or the “Services.”

By downloading, accessing, or using the Soco Application, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Soco Application.

Soco is designed to help people connect with others they meet in real life. Because our Services involve proximity-based connection suggestions and in-app messaging, we want to be clear about what information we collect, how we use it, what other users can see, and how we protect your privacy.

Soco controls and operates its business and the Soco Application from within the United States of America. Our online privacy practices are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Hawaii, which may differ from privacy laws in your state or home country. By using the Soco Application or submitting information to us, you understand that your information may be processed in the United States and handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we may notify you through the Soco Application, by posting an updated version on our website, or by other appropriate means. Your continued use of the Soco Application after an updated Privacy Policy is posted means that you acknowledge the updated Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly, information generated through your use of the Soco Application, and certain technical information from your device.

Personal Information You Provide

We may collect the following information from you when you create an account or use the Soco Application:

  • First name;
  • Last name;
  • Phone number;
  • Account information and settings;
  • Information you choose to provide through in-app messages;
  • Information you provide when contacting us for support, questions, or feedback.

Soco uses phone numbers internally for account creation, login, verification, account security, support, and operation of the Services. Soco does not display or exchange users’ phone numbers with other users as part of the connection process.

Soco does not require users to provide an email address to create an account.

Soco does not collect date of birth through the Soco Application.

Information Other Users Can See

Before a mutual connection is confirmed, another user may see the first name you provide in the Soco Application.

After both users approve or confirm a connection, each user may see the first and last name provided by the other user and may communicate through Soco’s in-app messaging feature.

Soco does not provide a native feature for users to exchange phone numbers, email addresses, or social media profiles as part of the mutual connection process. However, users may choose to share information with each other through in-app messaging. You are responsible for the information you choose to send or disclose to another user.

Bluetooth and Proximity Information

Soco uses Bluetooth-based proximity signals to help suggest potential connections with people you may have met in real life.

Soco does not collect GPS location information for this purpose.

When you use the Soco Application, we may collect and process Bluetooth-related information, proximity-based signals, device identifiers, user identifiers, timestamps, connection activity, and related technical information to operate the Services, suggest connections, confirm mutual approvals, troubleshoot issues, improve the Soco Application, and support safety and security.

Connection and Activity Information

We may collect information about how you interact with the Soco Application, including:

  • Suggested connections;
  • Connection approvals, confirmations, or rejections;
  • In-app messaging activity;
  • App usage activity;
  • Event-related or proximity-related activity;
  • Reports, blocks, moderation decisions, or safety-related actions;
  • Push notification activity;
  • Device and diagnostic information.

In-App Messages and Moderation

Soco allows users to message each other through in-app messaging after a mutual connection is made.

In-app messages are stored through a third-party messaging platform. That platform may include moderation technology or safety tools to help identify, flag, restrict, or block content or activity that may violate our Terms, community standards, or applicable law.

Soco may use automated moderation, human review, third-party moderation tools, reports, blocking features, and other safety processes to help protect users and enforce our Terms. We may review, restrict, remove, block, or preserve messages or account activity where we believe it is necessary for safety, security, legal compliance, abuse prevention, or enforcement of our Terms.

The Soco Application does not currently allow users to send photos or videos through in-app messages.

Device, Technical, and Usage Information

We may collect certain technical and device information automatically when you use the Soco Application or our website, including:

  • Device type;
  • Operating system;
  • App version;
  • Device identifiers;
  • IP address;
  • Log data;
  • Crash reports;
  • Diagnostic information;
  • Browser type;
  • Website usage information;
  • Mobile network information;
  • General performance and analytics information.

We use this information to operate, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Soco Application.

Website Cookies and Similar Technologies

Our website may use cookies or similar technologies. Cookies are small files that a website or service provider may store on your device or browser to help the website function, remember preferences, understand site traffic, and improve the user experience.

We do not currently process payments, purchases, orders, subscriptions, or shopping-cart transactions through the Soco Application.

  • To suggest potential connections based on Bluetooth-enabled proximity signals;
  • To allow users to approve, confirm, and message mutual connections;

  • To monitor, detect, prevent, and address fraud, misuse, abuse, security incidents, and safety risks;

  • To enforce our Terms and Conditions and community standards;
  • To improve, test, maintain, and develop the Soco Application;
  • To perform analytics, audits, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring;
  • To generate aggregate or non-identifying reports;
  • To communicate with users about Soco, including service-related updates;
  • To display, promote, or deliver in-app announcements, partner content, sponsored content, offers, or other promotional messages through the Soco Application;
  • To comply with applicable law, legal process, and regulatory obligations;
  • To protect the rights, safety, privacy, and property of Soco, our users, and others.

Push Notifications

Soco may send push notifications related to the operation of the Services, including connection confirmations, new messages, account activity, safety notices, and service updates.

You can manage or disable push notifications through your device settings. If you disable push notifications, some features of the Soco Application may not function as intended or you may miss important updates.

How We Share Personal Information

We do not sell users’ personal information.

We do not share minors’ personal information with third-party partners for their own independent use.

We may share personal information in the limited circumstances described below.

Other Users

Soco may share limited information with other users as part of the connection process.

Before a mutual connection is confirmed, another user may see the first name you provide.

After both users approve or confirm a connection, each user may see the first and last name provided by the other user and may communicate through in-app messaging.

Soco does not display or exchange users’ phone numbers with other users as part of the connection process.

Service Providers

We may share personal information with third-party service providers that help us operate, host, maintain, secure, analyze, moderate, or improve the Soco Application.

These service providers may include providers for:

  • Cloud hosting and database storage, including Google Firebase or related Google cloud services;
  • In-app messaging;
  • Moderation and safety tools;
  • Push notifications;
  • Analytics and diagnostics;
  • App performance monitoring;
  • Customer support;
  • Website hosting;
  • Security and fraud prevention;
  • Professional services, including legal, accounting, technical, or compliance support.

These service providers are permitted to use personal information only as needed to provide services to Soco or as otherwise permitted by law.

Third-Party Partners, Schools, Event Hosts, and Sponsors

Soco may work with third-party partners, schools, event hosts, organizations, sponsors, or other partners to support events, programs, promotional opportunities, or features made available through the Soco Application.

Unless otherwise disclosed to you or permitted by law, third-party partners do not receive direct access to all users’ personal account information.

Soco may provide partners with aggregate, de-identified, or non-identifying information, such as overall usage statistics, event-level activity, connection counts, participation trends, or other reporting that does not identify individual users.

Soco retains access to individual user information as needed to operate, secure, moderate, and improve the Soco Application.

Affiliates

We may share personal information with our affiliates, meaning companies under common ownership or control with Soco, for purposes consistent with this Privacy Policy.

Corporate Transactions

We may disclose or transfer personal information in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar corporate transaction involving all or part of our business.

Legal, Safety, and Security Reasons

We may use or disclose personal information if we believe it is necessary or appropriate to:

  • Comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or government request;
  • Enforce our Terms and Conditions or other policies;
  • Protect the rights, privacy, safety, or property of Soco, our users, or others;
  • Detect, prevent, or address fraud, abuse, security issues, or technical issues;
  • Investigate reports, violations, or safety concerns;
  • Respond to emergencies or potential harm;
  • Pursue available remedies or limit damages.

Aggregated, De-Identified, or Non-Personal Information

We may collect, create, use, disclose, publish, or share aggregated, de-identified, or non-personal information for any lawful purpose, including analytics, research, reporting, business development, event reporting, product improvement, promotional purposes, and partner reporting.

Aggregated or de-identified information is not intended to identify you personally. If we combine aggregated, de-identified, or non-personal information with personal information in a way that identifies you, we will treat the combined information as personal information.

Advertising and Promotional Content

Soco may display, promote, or deliver advertisements, sponsored content, partner content, announcements, offers, or other promotional messages in or through the Soco Application.

We do not sell users’ personal information.

We do not sell or share personal information of users we know are under the age of sixteen (16).

If Soco later engages in advertising, analytics, or promotional activities that require additional notice, consent, opt-out rights, or other disclosures under applicable privacy laws, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide choices where required by law.

How We Protect Personal Information

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

Personal information may be stored in cloud-based systems, including Google Firebase or related Google cloud services, and through third-party service providers that support the Soco Application.

Unfortunately, no system or online transmission of data can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. You should take appropriate steps to protect your account, device, and information. If you believe your Soco account or information is no longer secure, please contact us using the information provided below.

How To Manage, Correct, or Delete Your Account Information

You can visit the Settings section of the Soco Application to manage certain account information.

You may delete your account through the Settings section of the Soco Application by selecting “Delete Account” or a similar option.

When you submit an account deletion request through the Soco Application, Soco deletes your account information from its active backend systems, subject to limited retention where necessary or permitted by law, including for security, fraud prevention, safety, legal compliance, dispute resolution, backups, or enforcement of our Terms.

Some information you shared with other users, such as messages or information another user has already seen, copied, saved, or retained, may remain available to those users. We may also retain aggregated, de-identified, or non-personal information.

Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Soco Application, operate our business, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, protect safety and security, prevent fraud or abuse, enforce our Terms, and fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

When personal information is no longer needed, we will delete, de-identify, or aggregate it, subject to applicable law and technical limitations.

Children’s Privacy / COPPA

Soco is intended for users who are at least thirteen (13) years of age.

We do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personal information from children under the age of thirteen (13) through the Soco Application. By creating an account or using the Soco Application, the user represents that they are at least thirteen (13) years of age.

The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) places certain requirements on operators of websites and online services regarding the collection of personal information from children under the age of thirteen (13). Soco does not specifically market the Soco Application to children under the age of thirteen (13).

If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under thirteen (13) without appropriate parental consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete that information from our records. If a parent or guardian believes that a child under thirteen (13) has provided us with personal information through the Soco Application, please contact us at info@thesocoapp.com.

Users Ages 13 to 17

Soco may be used by users who are at least thirteen (13) years of age, subject to our Terms and Conditions and applicable law.

If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you should use the Soco Application only with permission from your parent or legal guardian.

We do not sell minors’ personal information. We do not provide third-party partners with direct access to minors’ personal account information for their own independent use. We may use minors’ information to provide, secure, moderate, and improve the Soco Application, and we may provide aggregate, de-identified, or non-identifying reports as described in this Privacy Policy.

Third-Party Links and Services

The Soco Application or website may contain links to third-party websites, app stores, social media pages, or other services that we do not control.

When you access a third-party website, application, or service, you are subject to that third party’s privacy policy and terms. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or security of third-party websites, applications, or services.

Do Not Track and Privacy Signals

Some browsers or devices may offer “Do Not Track” or similar privacy signals. Because there is not a uniform industry standard for responding to Do Not Track signals, our website may not respond to those signals.

Where required by applicable law, we will honor legally recognized opt-out preference signals, such as Global Privacy Control, to the extent applicable to the Soco Application.

California Privacy Rights

This section applies to California residents and supplements the other sections of this Privacy Policy.

Depending on how you use the Soco Application, we may collect the following categories of personal information:

  • Identifiers, such as first name, last name, phone number, user ID, device identifiers, and IP address;
  • Internet or other electronic network activity information, such as app usage, log data, device data, and interaction data;
  • Geolocation-related information in the limited form of Bluetooth-based proximity signals. Soco does not collect GPS location for proximity suggestions;
  • Inferences or connection-related information, such as suggested connections and proximity-based interaction activity;
  • User-generated content, such as in-app messages;
  • Sensitive personal information, if any information you choose to send through the Soco Application is considered sensitive under applicable law.

We collect this information from you, your device, your use of the Soco Application, other users’ interactions with the Soco Application, and our service providers.

We use this information for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to provide, operate, secure, moderate, analyze, improve, and promote the Soco Application.

We may disclose categories of personal information to service providers, affiliates, corporate transaction parties, legal or safety recipients, and other users as described in this Privacy Policy.

We do not sell personal information. We do not knowingly sell or share personal information of users under the age of sixteen (16). If our practices change in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any required notices, opt-out rights, or consents.

California residents may have the right, subject to certain exceptions, to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, sell, or share;
  • Access the personal information we have collected about them;
  • Correct inaccurate personal information;
  • Delete personal information;
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information;
  • Limit the use or disclosure of sensitive personal information, where applicable;

Soco uses phone numbers for account creation, login, verification, security, support, and operation of the Services.

We may send service-related communications, including account, security, support, and operational messages.

If we send marketing or promotional communications in the future, we will provide opt-out or unsubscribe options where required by law.

International Users

This English-language Privacy Policy is Soco’s official statement of its privacy practices. In case of any inconsistency between this English-language Privacy Policy and a translation into another language, this English-language document controls.

If you access or use the Soco Application from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.
